Clenching and Grinding
Many people damage their teeth by clenching or grinding them. This can also result in temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction causing joint pain and headaches, limited mouth opening, clicking and popping, and other symptoms. A common treatment employs a bruxism splint, more commonly known as a night guard or mouth guard. Part of the routine checkup includes evaluating for sign of clenching or grinding, which can occur during sleep, without the patient's knowledge.
